In this course, Computers 101, we take you on a journey into the world of computers. You’ll learn about how they work, what’s inside the box, the operating system and more.
This course is intended for learners who are new computers (or maybe just confused by what all that computer jargon means!).
All participants will be required to have either a personal or business account in Office 365. To ensure success, participants should understand the basics of using a Windows-based computer and be comfortable using the keyboard, mouse, Windows operating system and an internet browser.
Lesson 1: Getting Started (4m 1s)
In this lesson we ask the question: What IS a computer? In this Getting Started lesson, we take a quick look at different types of computers and the impact they have on our everyday life.
Lesson 2: Parts of a Computer (6m 32s)
The computer is made up of many parts both inside and outside. In this lesson we look at the common features on the outside of most computers. We also talk about some of the most popular peripherals, and different ways they connect to the computer.
Lesson 3: Inside the Computer (6m 11s)
The inside of a computer can be a mysterious place. In this lesson we take at look at the main parts inside of a computer.
Lesson 4: The Operating System (2m 53s)
The operating system is responsible for controlling computer functions and interpreting commands from the user and other software. In this lesson we talk about the functions of the operating system and the most popular operating systems today.
Lesson 5: Applications (2m 38s)
Applications, or computer software are developed to perform specific types of operations. In this lesson we look at how applications work with the operating system so that you can do the things that are important to you.
Lesson 6: Mobile Devices (5m 0s)
Mobile devices are fast becoming the most popular type of computer worldwide. In this lesson we look at the smartphone and the tablet and how they are different from computers, and yet how they are very much the same.
